About the Wine:
In the south of France, in Languedoc, a municipality, Saint-Christol, owes its fame to the production of excellent wines for nearly a millennium.
The Coste estate bears its name well, in an area of “Costières”, a term that designates rocky hills located between the mountains and the coastline visible on the horizon. A Maltese cross was erected in the Middle Ages in the countryside, near the estate.
If there is a land conducive to the production of great wines in Languedoc. She’s here! Country of Tramontane and Mistral, overlooking the lower Languedoc from its hills, the Domaine de la Coste-Moynier is located at the crossroads of the Provençal world and the large Languedoc territory. Planted on this hill made of pebbles, pebbles and vineyards, the estate has one of the most beautiful views in the region.
Elisabeth and Luc settled in Saint-Christol, in 1975, on a 33-hectare property, at the highest point of the village, at Domaine de la Coste, on land classified as AOC. Both descend from a long line of winegrower families whose presence in Languedoc is attested from the 13th century, in Mauguio, Assas and Beaulieu. As soon as the property was purchased, Luc and Elisabeth decided to restructure the vineyard; they cleared and replanted endemic grape varieties recommended for their qualities: Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, in particular.
Tasting Notes:
A Syrah, a Grenache on a terroir of pure pebbles. It gives that! All the expression of great wines from Villafranchien terroir. Color, aromas of black fruits that merge with notes of undergrowth, leather. Complexity in its pure state.
