About the Vineyard:
“The Mediterranean, Atlantic and continental climates combine in this region to create the best conditions for growing Garnacha and Tempranillo varieties. This has been done in these parts since the Bronze Age, when our ancestors became aware of the high quality of the soil.
More than four generations ago, the Rubio Family took over to take care of the vines and transmit a love of wine on this unique estate, located in the heart of the Sierra de los Agudos right next to the Moncayo National Park.
The main building at Finca Montote, an emblem of the winery, stands in the middle of the unique vineyards in this region. From its privileged position you can get a look at the winery’s most precious secret—a small estate where the oldest garnacha grapes in the entire Rioja Denomination of Origin grow.
Our vineyards produce wines of exceptional quality. Great care is taken when making them, creating modern wines that attempt to break the classic and traditional mould of Rioja wines.”
About the Wine:
This unique Altos de Montote comes from an area of old Grenache vines, one of the very few existing in Rioja and the oldest. The Grenache was picked by hand and elaborated carefully to obtain a wine with distinct personality, pleasant to the nose and powerful in the mouth. The fermentation of the must has been made separately, following several techniques like “Delestage”. Each lot has been aged separately, in barrels of different types and toasts during several months, obtaining a unique, singular and unrepeatable wine.
100% Old Vine Grenache
Tasting Notes:
Wine with an excellent cherry red colour with medium-high cover. Its aroma reminds us of several red fruits like currants and strawberries, and a touch of black pepper, liquorice or anise. In the mouth it has a mediterranean character, very lively that reminds us of jams, spices, dry figs and dates.
