AMRUT Distilleries Ltd is the KING of INDIAN SINGLE MALT WHISKIES. It is best known for its eponymous AMRUT brand of single malt whisky, which is the first single malt whisky to be made in India.
The brand became famous after world famous whisky connoisseur Jim Murray gave AMRUT FUSION a stellar 97.5 point rating in 2010. Murray named Amrut Fusion single malt whisky as the third best in the world and whisky heads began to turn. John Hansell, editor of American magazine Whisky Advocate, wrote that “India’s Amrut Distillery changed the way many think of Indian whisky – that it was, in the past, just cheap Scotch whisky blended with who knows what and sold as Indian whisky. Amrut is making whisky, and it’s very good”. Amrut Indian Single Malt Whisky is crafted in Bengaluru India.
Tasting Notes:
NOSE: Distinctly confidant liquorice-bourbon notes with near perfect bitter-sweet balance; burnt honeycomb and toffee also abound.
PALATE: Outstanding richness and sheen to the enormous barley-oak sweetness. Again there is a big bourbony cut to the cloth with all the liquorice and molasses sugar normally associated; but the barley adds that extra dimension.
FINISH: Long, wonderfully layered oak offering variation of a sweet dry theme; a touch silky with some cream toffee at the death.
