About the Vineyard:
Untouched by the passing of time and listed on the UNESCO world heritage sites, Blaye is a unique site where Art and History meet. For centuries, its royal fortress overlooks the prestigious surrounding vineyards. Today, Cotes de Blaye Appellation offers new perspectives by offering wines with a young, modern and dynamic approach.
Overlooking the Gironde estuary, Chateau Loumelat is ideally located. Its vineyard benefits from a great sun exposure that guaranties a perfect maturation of the grapes and the production of the finest wines. Located 6 miles North East of the historical city of Blaye, the vines are planted over magnificent sandy-clay and clay-limestone soils composed of several sedimentary layers left by the ocean millions of years ago. 240 sunny days a year and its geological history give to the Blaye area its unique character.
Owned by the Mariochaud Family since 1778, Chateau Loumelat vineyard is now operated under the supervision and outmost care of the Lesgourgues family. 94 acres of vineyards are dedicated to the production of red wines from the “L’Oumelat” parcel ; 27 acres to the production of white wines from the “Champ des Pins” parcel.
Blend:
78% Merlot, 22% Cabernet Sauvignon
Tasting Notes:
This is a complex wine that offers firm tannins and rich fruit. It has weight, density and a strong sense of ripeness. With balance and depth, it’s a wine with good aging potential.
Will pair nicely with all kind of meats (pork shank, roasted poultry), and perfumed cheeses (like crottins de Chavignolor other goat cheeses).
