About the Vineyard:
“Both Jean Louis and Christine Nadau were born into winemaking families, whose roots go back over 150 years. The vineyards of the Nadau family are located to the south of Libourne at Faleyras, on the limestone plateau at the heart of l’Entre-deux-Mers. The vineyard of Château Gillet is spread over 70 hectares and produces 350,000 bottles annually. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc are grown and this ensemble gives the wine a complexity that unites fullness with structure. The vines are trained in a simple Guyot system, and a full grass cover fills in the space between the vine rows.
Modern winemaking techniques are used by the Château, but the wines are matured in oak casks to ennoble each vintage. The white grapes are harvested early in the morning in the cool, in order to preserve the aromas as much as possible. After yeasting, alcoholic fermentation takes place slowly at low temperature. At the end of the alcoholic fermentation, the wines are racked and filtered before being bottled. For the red wines, the vinification is classic. The grapes are vatted after destemming and crushing, then the alcoholic fermentation takes place at controlled temperature between 25°C and 28°C, with two pumpovers per day for favorable color extraction.”
About the Wine:
60% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon
Tasting Notes:
Beautiful dark ruby red color and intense in depth, with purple reflections on the surface. The nose evokes cooked red and black fruits, with hints of vanilla and toast. The palate is full-bodied, fleshy and structured with good tannins which will keep for 5 to 8 years.
